Quebec National Assembly Passes Resolution Commemorating the 106th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide
The Quebec National Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution on April 22 commemorating the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, while simultaneously supporting the Canadian government’s decision to suspend military exports to Turkey.
“In commemorating the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Quebec National Assembly points out that it led to the death of 1.5 million men, women, and children. It sadly notes that the political recognition of genocide remains a subject of debate worldwide due to Turkey’s denial. It reminds us that in the past year, the Armenian people have again fallen victim to bloody events and tortures in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Without reservations, it supports the Canadian government’s decision to halt military sales to Turkey. It calls on the Quebec government to rally member states of the Francophonie leading up to the summit to express their support for Armenia.
In conclusion, the National Assembly expresses its solidarity with the Armenian people and recognizes their right to live in peace and security while preserving their language, culture, and faith,” the statement said.
