Mekhri Mayor's Arrest Recognized as Unlawful, Released
In a decision made today, April 23, at the Court of General Jurisdiction of Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts of Yerevan, presided over by Judge Manvel Shahverdyan, the arrest of Mekhri Mayor Mikitar Zakaryan was deemed unlawful.
It is noteworthy that Mikitar Zakaryan faced charges under Article 258, Part 3, Points 1, 2, and 5 of the RA Criminal Code (hooliganism).
Recall that on April 21, during protests against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Syunik, 19 individuals were arrested, including Mekhri Mayor Mikitar Zakaryan, Deputy Mayor Armen Samvelyan, and Goris Deputy Mayor Menua Hovsepyan. The court received motions to select detention as a preventive measure for 8 of the accused.
It should be noted that Menua Hovsepyan has been released, with the court recognizing his arrest as unlawful.
