«Tghas, the Turk is a Turk...». Aram I on his conversation with his father
His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, wrote on his Facebook page: “Around ten years ago, an internationally renowned Turkish historian visited Antelias to meet with me regarding the lawsuit of the Cilician Cathedral and then give a lecture on the genocide. My father learned about the visit from the Van Voice radio station. We were in a meeting with the visiting historian when the phone rang, and my father emphatically said, ‘What does the Turk have to do with Antelias...?’ I replied, saying that this Turk is not like the other Turks; he had the courage to write a book about the genocide of the Armenian people and defend our cause. My father responded, saying, ‘Son, a Turk is a Turk, regardless of what they do, speak, or write; one should not trust a Turk...’ After hanging up, I told the historian about my father's strong reaction to his visit. He said, ‘I understand your father's outburst; the old generation thinks like this.’ I immediately added, ‘The new generation too, as long as Turkey continues its denial and anti-Armenian policies.’
