Soldier Killed in War or Missing, Yet Banks Demand Payments from Relatives

Relatives of fallen soldiers continue to be demanded by banks and Varks.am for loan repayments. This was stated by NA BHK faction MP Naira Zohrabyan on her Facebook page.

She specifically noted, “The soldier has been killed in war or is missing, yet banks, especially usurers like Varks.am, continue to demand repayments from the deceased’s parents or spouse.”

On October 21, parliament approved an amendment to the Tax Code that would allow banks and credit organizations to forgive loans of soldiers killed, captured, or missing without tax consequences. Of course, the law cannot compel banks to forgive a soldier’s loan, and it is up to the bank to decide otherwise, but thousands of parents, despite their grief, are searching for money to repay the loan of their son killed for his homeland or imprisoned in Baku.

Banks have already forgiven loans amounting to about 2 billion drams for fallen and missing soldiers, but this is not a solution to the issue, as the number of borrowers is enormous and a parent who has lost their son cannot repay the loan. This is a problem that the government must solve, and it wouldn't hurt the “heroic” campaigners on the car hoods to remember that thousands of boys, who were led to guaranteed death, took out loans to support their families and lost their lives or are unaccounted for, and now banks and Varks.am are relentlessly pressuring the deceased’s mother and wife.
