The world champion in weightlifting, Simon Martirosyan's lawyer, Raffi Aslanyan, made a post on his Facebook page regarding the prosecutor's announcement yesterday about charging Martirosyan.

“The clarification from the RA Prosecutor General’s Office regarding the charges against world champion Simon Martirosyan has sparked numerous desperate comments in society, with some even expressing concern about the possibility of losing the upcoming Olympic gold. I must emphasize that granting him a relevant procedural status is in compliance with the legislative requirement to ensure an objective and comprehensive pre-investigation in the criminal case; therefore, I ask that the decision to engage the individual as a defendant not be confused with a guilty verdict. Rest assured, S. Martirosyan will still provide many moments of pride for all of us, and we will discuss the rest later as promised,” he wrote.

It is worth recalling that days ago, Simon Martirosyan accidentally hit a pedestrian crossing the street at an unauthorized location with his vehicle, leading to the initiation of a criminal case, in which he has been engaged as a defendant.
