The Abysmal State of the Frontline and the Inaction of the Ministry of Defense

Six months after the end of the Artsakh 44-day war and the trilateral statement of November 9, Armenia lacks a secure frontline. The new borders in the Syunik, Gegharkunik, and Vayots Dzor regions do not even have basic amenities; Armenian soldiers are holding the line on mountain peaks without trenches or minimal defensive conditions.

This situation speaks volumes about the inaction of the Ministry of Defense, particularly Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Chief of the General Staff Artak Davtyan. Notably, no engineering and technical work has been carried out on the frontline since the end of the war.

The daily newspaper sent a written inquiry to the Ministry of Defense inquiring why no engineering and technical work was being conducted on the frontline and what the reasons for this were. The Ministry of Defense responded to the inquiry from the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper, albeit quite late, stating: "Engineering works in the new post-war landscapes of the RA Armed Forces are conducted continuously. The progress of the work is sometimes conditioned by weather conditions, high mountainous terrain, a snow cover (up to 3 meters thick), swampy and currently frozen areas."

In essence, the Ministry of Defense also confirms that to date, no work has been done for the fortification of the frontline, as over 500 km of frontline mainly experiences cold climatic conditions and high mountainous terrain.

This is reported by the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper.
