Pashinyan Has ‘Dropped’ Pro-Pashinyan Groups: ‘Fact’

The National Assembly 'My Step' faction recently made changes to the Electoral Code in a ‘quick’ mode, without the participation of the opposition factions. More specifically, the proportional electoral system was abolished and nothing else.

This circumstance, where only the proportional system has been removed, has angered and disappointed certain political forces, mainly those small parties close to Nikol Pashinyan. The issue is that these parties have no theoretical chance of overcoming the 5 percent barrier, plus they lack candidates to propose under the majoritarian system.

Thus, Nikol Pashinyan had promised these parties to lower the threshold, making it 4 or even 3 percent, in return expecting them to conduct active campaigning in favor of the abolition of the proportional system, supporting the authorities.

These pro-Pashinyan groups actively did their part; however, Nikol Pashinyan only changed the electoral system, which was beneficial for him, while leaving the threshold unchanged. Essentially, these groups feel that Pashinyan has ‘dropped’ them.

According to reports from the ‘Fact’ newspaper, when he was informed about the discontent of the ‘dropped ones’, Pashinyan said that the parliamentary opposition should present a proposal, and then they will see. In other words, he is effectively distancing himself from the topic towards the opposition, even though he himself promised that changes would be made to reduce the threshold.

This was reported by the 'Fact' newspaper.
