US Provides Additional $1,000,000 to Support COVID-19 Vaccination Efforts in Armenia
The United States government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing an additional $1,000,000 to enhance the Armenian government's efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. With this funding, the total amount allocated by USAID for Armenia's fight against COVID-19 now exceeds $11 million.
This funding includes emergency resources to meet urgent health needs as well as to mitigate the secondary and tertiary impacts of the pandemic on democratic development and economic growth. The USAID is channeling these financial resources to UNICEF for supporting and effectively implementing COVID-19 vaccinations in Armenia, in accordance with the National Vaccination Distribution and Immunization Program.
U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy stated, “Throughout the pandemic, the United States has partnered with Armenia in the fight against COVID-19. With this new support, we will continue to work together to overcome COVID-19 and prepare for future public health threats.”
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the United States has closely collaborated with Armenia to strengthen public health preservation and response to COVID-19. This collaboration includes funding for bolstering laboratory capacities and managing severe cases, providing essential equipment, supporting vulnerable households and children, enhancing the Armenian government's crisis communication, strengthening emergency preparedness and response, as well as promoting resilience for small businesses, civil society, and media through grants.
The U.S. continues to demonstrate global leadership in international health and provides humanitarian assistance in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. This commitment is underpinned by over $140 billion provided by the U.S. Government to global health programs and the development of local health system capacities since 2001.
