‘Today’s Meeting Will Be An Attempt by Pashinyan to Gain Russia’s Trust’ - ‘Zhoghovurd’
Today, a meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia and President Vladimir Putin of Russia will take place. Interestingly, official Moscow, which has consistently stated that the issue of the Prime Minister's resignation or retention is an internal matter for Armenia, is not hiding this time that discussions in Moscow will also cover the upcoming snap elections in Armenia.
Specifically, the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated yesterday that Putin and Pashinyan will exchange thoughts on the electoral processes underway in Armenia, as well as other issues related to Armenian-Russian 'close cooperation'. Considering that just a week ago Vladimir Putin had a conversation with Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan, who was also in Moscow, the situation becomes even more intriguing.
Russian political scientist Stanislav Pritchin expressed his opinion in an interview with the 'Zhoghovurd' daily, suggesting that Pashinyan will attempt to secure Russia’s trust during this meeting. 'A segment of Armenian society reacted negatively to the outcome of negotiations, but there is a faction that supports him, albeit less than in 2018. This is a new reality for Nikol Pashinyan, and of course, support is important for him to approach the elections with more confidence,' predicted the Russian political scientist.
