Parents Who Buried 2 Bones Find Their Son's Complete Body at the Artashat Morgue
“We have learned that parents who had buried what they believed were the remains of their son, identified by DNA, recently found his complete body at the Artashat morgue,” stated Anahit Adoian, mother of one of the soldiers missing from the Ejmiatsin military unit, in an interview. According to 168.am, she had alerted that same parent months ago, informing them that those remains were not theirs and explaining that it was impossible for the body of a soldier who fell on November 7 in Shushi to be found in Zangelan.
However, those parents had relied on and trusted the DNA results and had buried the remains they had been given, believing them to belong to their son. “The head of the investigative department, Rafael Vardanyan, had said that such a mix-up could not happen, that the identification was correct, and that they had given them the remains of Gasparyan T., as their son Tigran’s remains, consisting of two parts, and they buried them on February 22,” she noted.
Ms. Anahit explained that their son had actually been at the Artashat morgue since January 2021, and his body was complete: “We know since April 3 that they have found the complete body of their child; only a bit of his face was injured, along with wounds to his arm and neck. He was fully recognizable, with tattoos and everything. Now we have information that they are supposed to conduct an exhumation.”
Relatives of soldiers missing from the Ejmiatsin military unit were at the forensic examination center on Heratsi Street yesterday to confirm whether or not an exhumation would take place. “They said they don’t know, investigator Razmik said, ‘We don’t know.’ But Rafael Vardanyan had said back then that it wouldn’t be possible for the samples not to match. Still, two samples have discrepancies. These are remains brought from Zangelan, and we have had that code with us for a long time, since the very first day; we had informed the parents that it was remains with that code, and they had responded affirmatively. Now they need to conduct an exhumation...”
Ms. Anahit informed that they plan to go to the Ministry of Health in the coming days and demand a meeting with responsible officials: “We will say, gather your personnel here so they can answer one by one for these discrepancies. I have promised that I will shake up all of ‘Yerablur’ because of this discrepancy, and let them be very careful with me; enough is enough, will they play games with us? We will go over everyone, all of them!”
