Maybe They Were Drunk or Decided to Descend for Some Reason: Why Azerbaijanis Descended from Shushi to Stepanakert According to Metakse Hakobyan

On the previous day, information spread that Azerbaijanis had descended from Shushi to Stepanakert and had made a notation near a tank. In an interview with ArmDaily.am, Metakse Hakobyan, a member of Artsakh's 'Justice' faction, addressed this incident, stating that the issue could be approached from two perspectives. On one hand, after this capitulation and disgraceful defeat, we have the problem of reorganizing and restoring our strength, and, of course, similar incidents can occur.

“Yesterday, residents asked me similar questions about whether we would witness more dangerous incidents in the future. During the reorganization period, especially when you are in a defeated position, such incidents will occur. Naturally, this is not an organized incident at the state level, but may perhaps be attributed to the fact that they were drunk or for some reason decided to come down, knowing they are currently defeated and consequently frightened. The purpose of this is to spread fear, which Azerbaijanis have always done.

On the other hand, when we look at it, of course, if anyone speaks about the security of Artsakh today and the security of Armenia, they would shamelessly be lying, just as they have been lying for the past three years. Just like the President of Artsakh who claimed that the air was protected, saying 'You want a war? You will get a war' and so on. Of course, we still do not have the right to speak about security today.”

Responding to the media's observation about concerns that next time they might not just settle for a notation on the sign and may resort to more dangerous actions, and whether Russian peacekeepers have any role here, he said that today he was informed that measures are being prepared to avoid similar situations in the future and that these measures are indeed being taken by the Russian peacekeepers.

“They are also new to this region; they are in the role of adapting here, and of course, steps are being taken to respond quickly to such incidents and to prevent such events. A decision has already been made regarding what specific steps will be taken, and I believe we will see results very shortly.”
