AstraZeneca Vaccine Clearly Linked to Thrombosis, WHO Confirms

The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that the benefits of using the AstraZeneca vaccine outweigh its drawbacks. This was announced by Rogerio Pinto de Sa Gaspar, the director of the WHO's Regulatory and Prequalification Department, as reported by Reuters.

“There is a clear link between the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 and the very rare occurrence of brain thrombosis, although the direct cause of this syndrome is still unknown,” he said.

WHO continues to conduct studies in light of reports of such complications in patients vaccinated with AstraZeneca. Earlier, on April 6th, Marco Cavaleri, head of the Health Threats and Vaccinations Strategy Department of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), acknowledged a connection between the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine and cases of thrombosis.

“We can now say that there is clearly an association between the vaccine and the onset of thrombosis. We still do not know what causes this reaction,” he noted.
