Artak Davtyan Starts a 'Vendetta' in the Army: What to Expect?

According to the newspaper 'Haykakan Zhamanak', structural changes are expected within the Armed Forces of Armenia; however, these are not being made to strengthen our army post-war or to fortify our borders against Azerbaijani provocations. Instead, it appears that a personal agenda has been set by the Prime Minister to relieve military personnel who demanded Onik Gasparyan's resignation from service while continuing the unfinished work of dismantling the Armed Forces.

To ensure everything proceeds as smoothly as possible, Artak Davtyan, currently occupying the Chief of Staff's office along with Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan, is discussing the enlargement of army corps and the establishment of a large command center, which will likely lead to further reductions. Thus, Artak Davtyan, having been disgracefully removed from his post as Chief of Staff and then returning amid legal scandals, is reportedly punishing military personnel, particularly corps commanders, who had opposed Nikol Pashinyan and had demanded his resignation.

It is worth mentioning that 40 military personnel had signed the document along with Gasparyan. Of course, one of the main targets is Grigor Khachaturov, the son of former Chief of Staff Yuri Khachaturov, who distinguished himself during both the 44-day war in Artsakh and the July events in Tavush through his activity and professionalism.

According to professionals within the military, the most incompetent general, Artak Davtyan, continues to turn the army upside down. Former Chief of Staff Movses Hakobyan previously stated, 'Back in April-May 2018, we ceded a significant amount of territory in the direction of Nakhchivan. We lost ground in the Zangakatun area, and the enemy advanced approximately 6 km. We have lost positions in the Areni area.' Hakobyan mentioned that this was why he advised the Prime Minister against appointing Artak Davtyan as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.

This information is reported by the newspaper 'Haykakan Zhamanak'.
