The Constitutional Court Has Accepted Armen Sarkissian's Application: The Date of the First Session is Announced
According to «Joghavourd» newspaper reports, the Constitutional Court has accepted for consideration the issue of the constitutionality of the law on "Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel." It should be noted that this issue was raised by the President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, who submitted an application to the Constitutional Court on March 10.
Thus, the Constitutional Court has decided to accept the application for review and to address the issue of the compliance of Article 40, Part 3 of the Law with the Constitution.
A statement from Armen Sarkissian's office noted: "The submission of the application is also due to existing issues in the legal application practice of the mentioned law, which became more evident following the Prime Minister's initiative to dismiss the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, Ounik Gasparyan, and the subsequent constitutional legal processes. The decisions of the Constitutional Court regarding the submitted application and any possible measures taken may have a serious impact on the previously adopted decisions, the current and future processes related to the existing situation in the context of the interpretation and application of the mentioned law."
It is worth adding that the first session on this matter will take place on June 1, which is also International Children's Day.
