Authorities Prefer Not to Publish Aprilian Commission Report: 'Fact'
The conclusion of the investigative commission studying the consequences of the April War garnered public interest primarily because the subject has periodically become a topic of political maneuvering. The newspaper had previously reported in one of its issues last year that the Armenian authorities would do everything possible to avoid publishing the final report of the April Commission.
Recently, this information was effectively confirmed by the commission's chair, Andranik Kocharyan, who noted that the report would not be made public, and only a limited number of individuals would have access to it. "Only officials who have access to secret and highly classified documents, as well as those granted special permission by the NSS, will be authorized to review the report," he stated.
According to the newspaper's sources, the authorities find it simply advantageous not to publish this report against the backdrop of the current political crisis in Armenia. Another important reason, as per our information, is related to the fact that the publication of the conclusion would debunk several myths that existed around the April War (such as soldiers fighting with shovels, eating grass in the trenches, or the lack of fuel, etc.). These are the myths that today's authorities exploited while still in the opposition and turned into a primary banner to deceive the public.
According to the newspaper's information, another reason for not publishing the report is the outlook for some military personnel to be presented in less than "vivid colors." This particularly concerns those who are currently favorites of the authorities.
