What was the authorities' purpose? March 1 remains unresolved. 'Zhoghvorud'
‘Zhoghvorud’ newspaper writes: Despite the fact that the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia insists that investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths of 10 individuals on March 1, 2008, there have been no revelations in this matter from the revolution until today, and the current authorities have limited themselves to only accusing former officials.
As the Constitutional Court noted, the accusations were unconstitutional and invalid. The fact is that the Prosecutor General's Office published its report on activities in 2020, which includes details regarding the investigation of this case. For example, the report contains sentences like: 'Significant investigative and procedural actions have been taken to clarify the circumstances of the deaths of 10 individuals, specifically numerous individuals have been questioned, a number of expert examinations have been appointed, seizures have been made, searches conducted, and written instructions have been given to the investigative bodies regarding the implementation of operational-investigative measures.'
However, as of today, the fact remains that none of the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the 10 victims have been clarified. According to the prosecutor's report, there are currently 12 individuals in the status of suspect in the criminal case. During 2020, over 200 individuals have been questioned as witnesses in this criminal case, more than 10 seizures have been made from citizens and various state agencies, over 15 searches have been conducted, and more than 50 expert examinations have been appointed, with over 2000 firearms and a large quantity of ammunition presented for examination. Yet, in essence, nothing has been revealed, as the authorities’ top priority was not to solve the murders but to see former officials behind bars.
