Turkey Violated International Law by Involving Mercenaries in the Artsakh War, Swiss Parliamentarians

Thirty-three members of the Swiss Federal Assembly have sent a letter urging the government to exert pressure on Turkey regarding gross human rights violations within its territory as well as in Armenia, Syria, Libya, and Iraq. The parliamentarians have called on the government to postpone a new free trade agreement with Turkey until the country complies with the European Court of Human Rights' rulings.

According to reports by Armenpress, as stated by ANF News, the parliamentarians noted that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is leading Turkey down a path of dictatorship by silencing opposition and critical voices, including media outlets, replacing independent judges with dependent ones, and imprisoning activists and journalists.

The Swiss legislators have documented that during the last war in Nagorno-Karabakh, Turkey sent mercenaries to Azerbaijan, which constitutes a gross violation of international law. They assessed that similar actions have also been demonstrated by Ankara in Libya.

“We are deeply convinced that Switzerland’s humanitarian traditions and the values protected by the Confederation will continue, and we are confident that this urgent appeal will be heard,” said the parliamentarians.
