PHOTOS: A Huge Lake Discovered on Mars
Scientists from Brown University in the USA have discovered an unknown type of ancient lake on Mars. This is stated in a report of their research work.
The experts have determined that it is a crater lake and claim that this discovery will help in studying the climate of the Red Planet during its early stages. Currently, there is no water present. It is believed that the lake dried up billions of years ago.
The research team is led by Dr. Brown Boutright, who stated that the lakebed indicates that streams once flowed there, although no external water entry channels have been found yet.
Additionally, traces indicating the activity of groundwater have been discovered. Based on this, the researchers assert that the system could have been fed by a glacier located on Mars. Water flowed down from the top of the crater, leaving its geological mark on the naked soil of Mars.
It is noteworthy that this type of lake significantly differs from those previously discovered at Gale and Jezero. Studies conducted by rovers allow us to conclude that the climate of the Red Planet was much warmer and wetter than that of Earth.
