You Will Take the Ballot Paper with Your Preferred Party's Name and Put It in an Envelope: My Step

During the elections, citizens will no longer vote for individual candidates from a party's list, but rather for the party as a whole. This was stated by Maria Karapetyan, a member of the My Step faction, on her Facebook page.

The legislator noted that voters will not make any marks on the ballot paper at all. "You will simply take the ballot paper that carries the name of your preferred party and put it in an envelope. This does not mean that you will not know who is eventually included in that party’s list. The lists will be published in advance. This voting system is referred to as pure proportional representation," she wrote.

It is important to note that today the parliament adopted, in the first and second readings, a draft law amending the constitutional law on the Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia, which proposes to eliminate the majoritarian electoral system and introduce a closed proportional representation system.
