Stepanavan Police Uncover Illegal Logging Incident
On March 25, community police officers from the Stepanavan division of the Armenian police inspected a "Ford Transit" van loaded with timber from the village of Yeghnagut during a routine patrol in the territory of the village of Kurthan. According to the Public Relations and Media Department of the Police of Armenia, the driver failed to provide documentation confirming the legality of the timber.
It was revealed that on March 15, he illegally cut down mulberry and oak trees in the outskirts of Yeghnagut using a chainsaw and sold the timber to a 25-year-old passenger, a resident of the village of Pokr Mantash in Shirak Province, who was preparing to transport the timber to Pokr Mantash.
According to the source, the vehicle loaded with timber has been moved to a special protected area of the Stepanavan Police Division. A professional examination has been assigned. Materials are being prepared on the facts of the case.
