Slovak National Council Adopts Resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh

On April 1, during the 25th plenary session of the Slovak Parliament, the National Council unanimously adopted a resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh, presented by Marian Kery, a member of the SMER–SD/Social Democrats party and the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, with 120 votes in favor. This was reported by the Embassy of Armenia in Austria.

The resolution strongly condemns the killings of civilians, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and the cultural and religious heritage monuments. It expresses concern over the military involvement of third countries during the conflict and their destabilizing role. The resolution emphasizes that the process of achieving lasting peace and determining the future legal status of Nagorno-Karabakh should be conducted under the auspices of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. Additionally, it raises grave concerns that prisoners of war and other persons detained, including civilians, have not been released in accordance with international humanitarian law, particularly the provisions of the 1949 Geneva Convention (III).

The resolution calls on the Government of the Slovak Republic, the European Union, and international organizations to ensure a proper investigation into all allegations of war crimes, including the use of cluster munitions, the immediate release of all prisoners of war and civilians, and the unrestricted access of international humanitarian organizations to Nagorno-Karabakh.
