VIDEO: Foreigners Commit Theft from a Residence on Baghramyan Avenue
On March 26, at 15:50, a woman residing on Baghramyan Avenue in the capital contacted the police. The call reported a residential burglary. The 39-year-old woman stated that on that day, between 10:30 and 15:40, when she was away from home, someone had entered her house and stolen cash and gold items.
The police of the Republic of Armenia reported that an operational group from the Arabkir police department was dispatched to the scene, and a report was taken from the victim. The crime scene was investigated: the house was ransacked, but neither the locks were broken nor were the doors or windows damaged. It could be inferred that this was a so-called 'professional' job.
The criminal investigators of Arabkir, in collaboration with the department for minors and prevention of domestic violence, began working on the case. Thanks to operational and investigative measures, it was found that around 11:20, two men wearing medical masks and hats entered the building exhibiting suspicious behavior and left about half an hour later with bags.
Operational inquiries were conducted in the building and surrounding areas. It turned out that the men were not local residents. The suspicions became more substantiated when it was revealed that the same individuals had entered the same entrance of the building the day before and had surveyed the area.
The next steps were to locate these men. Subsequent measures revealed that after the theft, the men walked towards Baghramyan Avenue, hailed a random taxi, and traveled to the second district of Nor Nork. Here, likely to throw off their trail, they disembarked and boarded another taxi heading to Jrvazh.
It was also established that the men had taken residence in one of the hotel complexes in Jrvazh. The following day, the investigation into the residential burglary was completed. On the evening of March 27, the criminal investigators from Arabkir, along with their counterparts from the Yerevan police department, went to Jrvazh. In the hotel complex where they were temporarily residing, they were found and taken to the Arabkir police department.
During a search, a gold chain stolen from the residence was discovered in possession of one of the men. The men not only were not residents of Baghramyan Avenue in the capital but were also not residents of Yerevan or Armenia at all. The foreigners, aged 32 and 44, reportedly came to Armenia for what they referred to as 'gastro tours.' Apart from the physical evidence of the gold chain, other gold items and large amounts of cash were also discovered during the search.
The investigation will further clarify the source of these items and any additional criminal activities they may have committed. There are indications that they had previously been convicted. Through the professional work of our police officers, not only was the residential burglary uncovered, but also the dangerous 'guest performances' of these foreigners in Armenia were halted. Both men have been arrested. An investigation is underway.
