Marijuana Use Legalized in New York

Marijuana use has been legalized in the state of New York, according to a report from Axios. The decision to legalize cannabis received support from both chambers of the state legislature. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he has signed the bill.

With this move, New York becomes the 15th state in the U.S. to allow marijuana use for non-medical purposes. It is noted that the legislation will expunge the convictions of thousands of residents who were convicted on charges related to cannabis use.

According to local authorities, the new industry is expected to create between 30,000 to 60,000 new jobs and will generate an additional $350 million annually for the state treasury.
