70 Percent of Displaced Residents Return to Artsakh's Karmir Shuka Community After War
Approximately 790 residents, consisting of 233 households, have returned to the Karmir Shuka community in the Martuni region of Artsakh since the end of the war, according to Karmir Shuka community leader Narek Atayan in an interview with Armenpress. He noted that around 70 percent of the population has returned, while others are waiting for the completion of the construction of their homes.
“Additionally, six displaced families have expressed a desire to resettle in the community, as well as seven families from areas under the control of Artsakh,” said Atayan. He reported that the construction work on one of the two apartment buildings being built in Karmir Shuka is currently nearing completion.
“The 33 apartments in the building are intended for seven large families from Karmir Shuka who wish to live in the building instead of private houses. The other apartments, which number more than 20, will be provided to displaced families, particularly those who have relocated from the village of Taghavor,” the community head detailed.
Since the war, the educational process has been restored in Karmir Shuka's school as of January this year. Currently, 168 students are attending the educational institution. The renovation work in the community's kindergarten has been temporarily halted. Instead of the previous 75 preschool-aged children, only 23 children are currently attending the kindergarten,” Atayan announced.
He assured that conditions have also been created in Karmir Shuka to ensure the employment of the population. The majority of job opportunities are in construction companies. Additionally, oil and alcohol factories continue their operations.
