Still Need to Sign: Armen Sargsyan on the Matter of Elections
The President of Armenia has reminded that the final decision regarding the date of the elections is yet to be signed by him. It is possible that he will send it to the Constitutional Court.
In an interview with RBC, President Armen Sargsyan responded quite "clearly" to the question about the early parliamentary elections. The journalist attempted to ask the president, "Parliamentary elections are supposed to be held in Armenia on June 20..." However, the President did not allow him to finish the question and briefly said, "Maybe." He later clarified that it is possible that the elections may take place on another date or may not happen at all.
"There still needs to be a certain process in parliament—there should be the resignation of the Prime Minister, and then all of that should come to my desk. Only then will the date be determined," said the President of Armenia.
Sargsyan elaborated that the decision to set the date for the elections still needs to be signed by the country's president, and he has not signed anything yet. "I have not signed anything regarding June 20. And maybe I will not sign, but will send the decision to the Constitutional Court," he noted.
It should be recalled that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on March 18 that parliamentary early elections would be held in the Republic of Armenia on June 20.
