Some Subjects Not Taught in 101 Schools Due to Teacher Absences
We regularly receive information that a number of regional schools lack teachers for certain subjects. In some instances, students graduate without studying specific subjects. The "Pats" newspaper has approached the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia, requesting a response regarding whether there are specific calculations on the shortage of teachers for subjects in regional schools.
In their response, the Ministry indicated that as of January 2021, there are subjects not being taught in 101 schools across 9 regions of the republic due to the absence of teachers. The number of subjects not taught is 18, and preliminary estimates indicate a need for approximately 695 teachers. They added that these figures are continuously changing.
From the same response, it also becomes clear that the greatest shortage of teachers is in the subjects of Art (86), Vocal, Dance, Music (80), and History of the Armenian Church (79), while the least is in Native Language (1), Mathematics (5), and Russian Language (7) subjects. This was reported by the "Pats" newspaper.
