Karvachar Was Not Ours: My Step Deputy Hovik Aghazaryan

Karvachar Was Not Ours: My Step Deputy Hovik Aghazaryan

The victorious side does not use such rhetoric; rather, it employs another form of rhetoric. Therefore, I question Azerbaijan's victory. This was stated by Hovik Aghazaryan, a member of the 'My Step' parliamentary faction, during an interview with 'Factinfo', referring to the observation that the President of Azerbaijan continues to declare that Armenians are their enemies.

In response to the journalist's observation that doubting Azerbaijan's victory does not make Karvachar ours, the deputy replied, 'Karvachar was not ours. Karvachar was established by our soldiers in the 1990s as a defensive zone for Artsakh to later return those lands and grant Artsakh a status.'

When asked why the previous authorities did not return it if that were the case, Aghazaryan responded that one should have had the courage to speak with the previous leadership, as it is easier to talk with the current authorities.

He noted that in the early 1990s, Armenia had a population of 4 million: 'Following our victories back then, which I do not consider a victory in war, but victories in battles, victory generals, heroes, and lords were born, whose actions resulted in Armenia's population decreasing from 4 million to 2.5 million.'
