80-Year-Old Turkish Actress Sentenced to Imprisonment for Insulting Erdogan

Turkish actress Nilyufer Aydan (Aydan Canbula) has been sentenced to 11 months and 20 days in prison for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This has been reported by Ermenihaber.am.

It is noted that according to Article 299 of the Turkish Penal Code, insulting the country's president is a crime, punishable by a maximum of four years in prison.

The Turkish prosecutor's office has initiated a criminal case against the actress. The indictment prepared by the prosecutor's office states that Aydan made 'offensive posts against Erdogan' on social media between 2016 and 2018.

During court hearings, the 80-year-old actress denied the charges brought against her and requested the court to acquit her.
