Hakob, who fought for 44 days for his life from Fuzuli to Shushi, is a political and national prisoner

Human rights defender Ruben Melikyan wrote on his Facebook page: “Since yesterday, many have been talking about the homeland-returning volunteer Hakob Perperyan (Berberyan), who has been imprisoned for a long time in connection with the infamous case of November 9. I would like to inform you that in light of the significant public demand, today I met with Hakob’s lawyer, public defender Fred Sargsyan, and had an extensive discussion about the progress and details of the case.

At this moment, I do not wish to overload you with details. Instead, I will present my clear conclusion: Hakob is a political and national prisoner. He is subjected to targeted and unlawful criminal prosecution, with the aim of keeping Hakob imprisoned for a long time. I will only mention one fact: on November 25, 2020, the first-instance judge Karen Farakhoyan rejected the motion to detain Hakob (yes, it was Farakhoyan). For about two and a half months, Hakob remained free and committed no unlawful act, nor did he evade or obstruct the investigation in any way.

However, when towards the end of January, the capitulant sent the well-known ‘scientist’ Jhangiryan, known for his unlawful practices and orders, to the Court of Cassation, the courts suddenly changed their behavior sharply. First, the well-known judge Arman Danielyan revoked the decision made in Hakob’s favor and sent the case back to the first instance, and then another well-known judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan decided to detain the volunteer, who had not obstructed the investigation in any way for two and a half months. Finally, the appellate judge Lusine Abgaryan saw no wrongdoing in all of this and left Hakob imprisoned.

During this period, lawyer Fred Sargsyan exhibited high professionalism and great diligence in defending Hakob. However, when dealing with a ‘Turkish order’, unfortunately, all of this is not enough. Therefore, it is necessary to keep Hakob’s case constantly in the public eye.

All those who disagree with imprisoning a person who has traversed the entire hell of war (from Fuzuli to Shushi), a person who fought for 44 days on the frontline, at the instruction of the ‘Turkish order’ can join our fight for Hakob’s freedom and vindication. Who-what, but Hakob had the RIGHT to demand answers from the capitulant on November 9. Those who agree with this assertion can also join our fight for Hakob’s freedom and vindication.

We have agreed with lawyer Fred Sargsyan to hold a press conference in the near future to present the outrageous violations related to Hakob’s case to the public.

P.S. Imprisonment has not changed Hakob; he is still the same direct and honest Hakob.

P.P.S. Shame on the judges mentioned!
