Details of Incident on the Road to Goris: Car Did Not Stop Even After Damage
The attack with stones on the vehicle carrying the bodies of fallen soldiers once again demonstrates serious issues regarding the safe movement of civilians. In an interview with Sputnik Armenia regarding the incident that took place last night, Irina Yolyana, Deputy Mayor of the enlarged community of Goris, expressed this opinion.
She informed that Azerbaijanis had struck the vehicle with stones in a 4-5 km section of the road coming from Stepanakert to Goris. As reported earlier, last night, Azerbaijanis threw stones at the vehicle transporting the bodies of fallen soldiers, shattering its windows.
“We are raising this issue so that the competent authorities can take steps to ensure that citizens have the opportunity to move safely,” she said.
Yolyana also mentioned that they had met with the driver of the vehicle at the community hall, documenting the damage to the vehicle, and would try to compensate so that it could continue normal operations towards Stepanakert in the future.
“Naturally, the driver has concerns because the incident occurred late at night, and he was alone on the road. However, even after the vehicle was damaged, it did not stop on the road, and he drove away quickly,” Yolyana said, noting that the driver mentioned this was not the first incident, and Azerbaijanis often try to show their negative, aggressive attitude on the roads, particularly through gestures.
It should be reminded that on March 25, there was also an incident between Armenians and Azerbaijanis on the Sarushen-Karmir village stretch in the Askeran region. Around 13:30, during the passage of an Azerbaijani motorcade escorted by Russian peacekeepers, Azerbaijani soldiers struck the Armenian vehicles traveling the same road with stones, damaging the windshield of a vehicle driven by Lentrush Babayan, who was in a VAZ 21-07 model car.
