Armenia Acquires AstraZeneca Vaccine at Affordable Price
Armenia is purchasing the AstraZeneca vaccine at a cost of $4.5 per dose, significantly lower than the international market price of $25. According to reports from Armenpress, this information was shared by Gayane Sahakyan, the Deputy Director of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, during a press conference.
“The price of the AstraZeneca vaccine is very high; on the international market, it reaches up to $25. We have acquired it through the COVAX Facility initiative, which allows us to pay $4.5 per dose. This is a quite affordable price for our country,” said Sahakyan.
She noted that during the initial phase, it is crucial to focus on four risk groups, while vaccinations will be expanded in the second phase. “We received the first batch of the vaccine yesterday, and intensive work is already underway. By the end of the week, the vaccine will reach even remote villages,” she added.
On March 28, 2021, the first batch of the coronavirus vaccine arrived in the Republic of Armenia through the COVAX FACILITY initiative, comprising 24,000 doses. This is intended for at-risk groups, specifically healthcare workers, individuals aged 65 and older, those aged 16 to 64 with chronic illnesses, residents and staff of elderly care centers, and social care center employees, as part of a voluntary vaccination campaign against COVID-19.
