Iraq's Minister of Defense Arrives in Armenia
A delegation led by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Iraq, Jumaa Inad Saadun Khattab, has arrived in Armenia on an official visit. Following the official welcoming ceremony held at the Ministry of Defense of Armenia on March 25, a private meeting took place between the Ministers of Defense of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Iraq, followed by a meeting with both delegations.
The talks focused on the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the field of defense between Armenia and Iraq, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in several areas of mutual interest, including experience exchange, regular political-military consultations, and military-technical cooperation.
During the meeting, regional security issues were also discussed. The Armenian Minister of Defense, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, presented the situation resulting from military operations and the ongoing fulfillment of agreements reached after their cessation.
The Ministers of Defense, Vagharshak Harutyunyan of Armenia and Jumaa Inad Saadun Khattab of Iraq, signed an agreement on intentions regarding cooperation in the field of defense between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Iraq, establishing 13 areas of mutual interest for cooperation.
The document also provides for the preparation and signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of defense between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Iraq.
On March 25, the delegation headed by the Iraqi Minister of Defense also visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex to pay tribute to the memory of the canonized martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.
