The Opening of Land Borders with Georgia is One of Our Agenda Issues: Ara Aivazyan

The opening of land borders with Georgia is one of the agenda issues we are working on. We are actively communicating with the Georgian side. We hope a solution will be found soon. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ara Aivazyan, during a Q&A session in the National Assembly, in response to a question from MP Sargis Aleksanyan of the 'Bright Armenia' faction.

He noted that the opening of borders is particularly concerning for residents of Tavush and Lori marzes, as the majority of these residents are engaged in trade and are now deprived of the opportunity to earn income.

'What steps are being taken regarding the opening of land borders and increasing trade turnover? The flow of people has significantly decreased, although transportation of goods is being carried out,' said the MP.

The Minister noted that last week there were political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers, discussing a broad range of bilateral agenda, including the issue of opening land borders.

'Both sides are positive about finding a solution to this issue. The pandemic, of course, has a negative impact, but there are also some technical problems that I am confident can be resolved quickly,' stated Ara Aivazyan.
