Defense Ministry Denies Acquisition of Bulletproof Vests Priced at $600
Former President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, in a recent interview, stated that corruption still exists in Armenia, citing an example involving the Defense Ministry purchasing bulletproof vests at excessively high prices of $600 each.
Auroranews submitted an inquiry to Minister of Defense Vagharshak Harutyunyan regarding this issue.
The Defense Ministry refuted Sargsyan's claims, stating that no bulletproof vests were purchased at the price of $600.
It is worth mentioning that MP Andranik Kocharyan commented on this topic, saying: “If he says that ‘the purchases were not made by the Defense Ministry,’ then naturally, the responsible agencies and structures will investigate and provide answers. If there have been irregularities in the purchase, or abuses, those responsible must definitely be held accountable, if any do exist. However, I reiterate, it is easy to say, it is good that it is said, and there is such information that vests were purchased, but presumably those vests were not bought for the army, and they should have entered the military material storage, where it can be clearly seen who purchased them, at what price, and with whose money. There were many people who were buying items with their own funds during this war.”
