Around 120 People Need Prosthetics, Minister Reports
After the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, around 1,000 servicemen have received various groups of disability. This was reported by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Mesrop Arakelyan, during a session of the National Assembly of Armenia on March 24, in response to questions from lawmakers.
The minister noted that the medical and social examination of servicemen injured during the war in Karabakh is in its final stages and that there is already a preliminary picture. Specifically, around 500 civilians have sustained serious injuries (1st and 2nd group of disability), among which about 150 individuals constitute the 1st group.
“Around 120 people need prosthetics. About 500 have sustained minor injuries and will receive or have already received the 3rd group of disability. Overall, as of now, we have provided disability groups to around 1,000 citizens,” stated Arakelyan. He emphasized that in the near future, the prosthetic fitting for citizens will be carried out in groups, depending on the type of amputation. This will be done in accordance with international standards. “The prosthetics have been acquired from Western prosthetic centers,” the minister added.
