Earthquake Recorded in Western Georgia Last Night
According to the National Center for Seismic Monitoring of Georgia, an earthquake of magnitude 3 occurred in the municipality of Racha, located 147 kilometers from Tbilisi. The underground tremors were recorded at 01:10 local time. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 4 kilometers.
No information about casualties or damage has been reported. Georgia is a country of moderate seismic activity. The strongest earthquake recorded in Georgia, measuring 7 in magnitude, occurred in 1991 in the regions of Racha and Imereti (Western Georgia). Approximately 200 people lost their lives in that earthquake, and nearly 46,000 homes and 1,000 industrial facilities were destroyed.
