No Hunger Strike Incidents at the Nursing Home; Schedule Disrupted, Some Seniors Missed Breakfast - Manucharyan

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia, Zara Manucharyan, made a post on Facebook addressing an incident that occurred at the Norq Nursing Home. According to circulating reports, several residents of the nursing home had declared a hunger strike, demanding the resignation of the new director and the return of the former director.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs issued the following statement:

“In response to certain concerns, we find it necessary to clarify that reports circulating in the media regarding the Ministry's intention to sell the Norq Nursing Home building and transfer the seniors to the number 1 nursing home are not true. The elderly are being cared for and will continue to receive care in their respective institutions.”

“At the same time, we announce that there are no hunger strike incidents at the number 1 nursing home. Due to the entry and exit disruptions starting this morning, the daily schedule of the seniors was affected, resulting in some of them not attending breakfast. Social workers have resolved the issue.”

“All of the Ministry's current efforts are aimed at significantly improving the conditions of the institutions, with the goal of also creating opportunities to ensure the engagement of the elderly.”
