US Senate Committee Calls on Biden to Recognize Armenian Genocide

Thirty-eight senators have sent a letter to US President Joe Biden, demanding that he refer to the events of 1915 as "genocide" in his upcoming April 24 speech. "Mr. President, we strongly urge you to officially recognize the fact of the Armenian genocide. You have previously condemned the Armenian genocide as such, including during the 2020 election campaign. We call upon you to do the same as president," the introductory part of the letter states.

Providing brief details about the events from 1915 to 1923, the members of the upper chamber of the American legislature also emphasize their unity with the Armenian community and Armenians around the world in commemorating the victims. The senators remind that it is the current administration's commitment to build American policy on American values and to show respect for human rights.

The authors of the letter initiated by Senator Robert Menendez also recall that two years ago, both chambers of the United States Congress condemned the Armenian genocide.
