Acting Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces is Interim Appointee: Alen Simonian

The decision of the Administrative Court is illegal; the court has attempted to ascribe an action regarding the constitutional norm to itself. This was stated by the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, during a briefing with journalists, referring to the Administrative Court's decision regarding Onik Gasparyan's tenure made yesterday.

“The action has already been completed; it is not permissible to apply precautionary measures for a claim related to a norm that enters into force by law, this is not a construction project that you can pause until a judicial act is made. I cannot imagine how this would be implemented, assuming that the decision has legal force. The Administrative Court cannot restore something; it can only suspend,” said Simonian.

The Vice Speaker added that today, the duties of the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces are being carried out by an interim appointee, while Onik Gasparyan continues to be an officer and remains in the Ministry of Defense's personnel reserve.
