Today will be the meeting between Pashinyan and Tsarukyan, according to 'Hraparak'
According to reports, a meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Gagik Tsarukyan will finally take place today regarding the agenda of early elections, after which the exact date of Pashinyan's resignation and the early elections will be announced. The Secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), Arman Abovyan, stated that he does not have such information: 'This is the first time I am hearing about it from you.' He also had no information on whether a meeting of the BHK Political Council is scheduled for today or tomorrow.
In reality, there is not much need for a meeting; Pashinyan should announce his resignation, and Tsarukyan should declare that he will not be running for prime minister, after which the National Assembly will be dissolved.
The issue concerns deadlines—Pashinyan is trying to convince the opposition to conduct elections in the fall. According to the new Electoral Code, elections can only be held six months after its adoption. If they were to be held in the summer, it would only be under the old code, which means a temporary high threshold of 5 percent and a majoritarian system. Incidentally, Soros-funded organizations have launched strong opposition against the old code, issuing statements for two days now. However, both Tsarukyan and the opposition, and to some extent the authorities, are in favor of the old code.
