New Details Emerge from the Recent Murder in Gyumri

The Shirak Regional Investigation Department of the Armenian Investigative Committee has announced that a number of expert examinations will be conducted as part of the criminal case initiated under Article 34-104, Part 2, Point 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (murder, attempt on the lives of two or more persons).

Hayk Tamoyan, a 34-year-old resident of the Mush 2 neighborhood in Gyumri, who is suspected of murder and attempted murder, will undergo a forensic psychiatric examination to determine his state of mind at the time of the crime.

According to Shamshyan.com, prior to the murder, Tamoyan's brother had tragically died in a car accident while the deceased was transporting him and their father, Artush Tamoyan, to Yerevan. The brother had been injured in the recent war and needed to be hospitalized for prosthetic treatment. Following the fatal accident, their father was also taken to the hospital, but he passed away on February 25 at the Armenia Medical Center. It is suspected that under the heavy emotional distress from the deaths of his brother and father, Tamoyan believed that the taxi driver was responsible for their deaths and committed the act of murder on the same day.

Reports indicate that the father had previously worked in the police force, holding the rank of lieutenant colonel, and both he and his brother, who worked in the criminal investigation department of the Mush Division, were well-known figures in Gyumri.

It is worth noting that a murder occurred on March 15 in the Shirak region. At around 3:20 PM, the Shirak regional police received a report of a body found in the yard of building 10/2 in the Mush 2 neighborhood of Gyumri. According to the photographer at the scene, the operational group of the Shirak regional police, headed by Chief Aram Ghazaryan, along with a team from the Shirak Regional Investigation Department, led by Chief Aghas Isahakyan, arrived at the location.

Police and investigators discovered the body of 37-year-old Rafik Mnatsakanyan. Preliminary data from the forensic expert indicated multiple stab wounds on the body. In response, an investigative group was formed, and a criminal case was initiated under the aforementioned Article.

Considering the gravity of the crime, the Shirak regional prosecutor Gurgen Grigoryan also arrived at the scene. The police and investigative department are undertaking necessary operational and investigative measures to solve the crime, identify the perpetrator, and recover the murder weapon.

According to G. Shamshyan’s information, two other individuals were taken to the hospital with injuries from the scene: the deceased's wife, 33-year-old Anush Sardarayan, and the deceased's cousin, 28-year-old Armen Tonoyan. Meanwhile, the brother of the senior operative from the Mush Division, who had died in a tragic car accident on the Yerevan-Gyumri highway, was being searched for as a suspect in the murder, as he was the taxi driver involved in the accident on that fateful day.
