Several Cases May Be Obtained, Says Deputy Police Chief on Interpol Document

At this moment, I cannot provide any information as the document has just been published, said Deputy Police Chief Ara Fidanyan in a conversation with journalists regarding the Interpol document published by MP Taguhi Tovmasyan.

According to the document, Interpol has classified the search for former prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan as political and has rejected cooperation with Armenia.

“Regarding the circumstances under which the search may have been ceased or not, and why we have not provided this information, I must emphasize that this should have been the responsibility of the investigative body, not the police,” noted the deputy police chief.

When asked if there are any data in the police department that cooperation has been suspended in this regard, Fidanyan responded, “We receive information about a considerable number of persons, but I cannot recall which specific person it was and who it has been ceased for. About 500 people are wanted by Interpol; I cannot remember them all.”

A journalist also inquired whether the police have received any response regarding allegations of political persecution in any case. “In several cases, perhaps, a response has been obtained, but I cannot specify who it pertains to at the moment,” he replied.
