Most of the Sotk Mine is Under Azerbaijani Control, Part of the Mine is Operational: Tovmasyan
The Sotk mine continues operations partially, and in that area, the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides have not yet started delineation. HAKOB AVETYAN, the head of the Sotk community in Gegharkunik province, stated in an interview with Tert.am.
He assured that the vicinity of the mine has been calm in recent months, with no tensions reported. Independent MP Taguhi Tovmasyan mentioned in a conversation with the media that since most of the mine is under Azerbaijani control, part of the mine is operational, and the Azerbaijanis have signed various contracts and aim to exploit the mine.
“There are reductions at the mine, affecting about 300 workers, with over 100 already laid off. My raised concerns have not been addressed by the Government; they have not received any attention, nor have any solutions been provided,” Tovmasyan noted.
Addressing the safety concerns of mine workers, the MP pointed out that residents of Vardenis and surrounding areas work under direct Azerbaijani targeting, raising concerns about the level of safety.
