Citizens Avoiding Military Draft Can Return to Armenia Without Criminal Prosecution: Kocharian

Citizens of Armenia aged 27 who have not served in the armed forces and against whom arrest warrants have been issued may soon benefit from amnesty, allowing them to return to their homeland.

Andranik Kocharian, the head of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security, announced during a committee meeting that a legislative package has been developed through the initiative of parliament members and subsequent amendments by the government, which will enable males over the age of 27 to return to Armenia unconditionally.

“We will provide a one-year timeframe for them to come back to Armenia without any preconditions and to be exempt from criminal prosecution. After one year, we will return to the initiative for stricter measures,” Kocharian stated.
