Bank and State Revenue Committee Demand Payment from Wife of Missing Soldier

Relatives of a missing soldier are being demanded to fulfill their loan obligations. In an interview with "Factinfo," the mother of the soldier, Anahit Adoian, raised such an alarm. She stated that her son's wife has been receiving regular letters about the necessity of fulfilling the loan obligations. Furthermore, they have also received a notification from the State Revenue Committee.

"Letters are coming from the banks, and notices are coming from the mandatory authorities — it has gotten to that level... the house is mortgaged. Come and see how these kids are living. My daughter-in-law is 24 years old, she can’t work anywhere, kindergartens are closed, and their daughter is three years old. What can this girl do, how can she support the family, what loans are we talking about until her husband returns? Ardshinbank is increasing the loan interest day by day. They shouldn’t play games with the parents," said Anahit Adoian.

It should be noted that A. Adoian's son is a soldier from the Yerevan Chemists Military Unit, who went to Zangelan with fellow servicemen, after which there has been no information about his or the other soldiers’ whereabouts.

Please note that the President of the Central Bank, Martin Galstyan, announced at a press conference today that Armenian banks have forgiven the loans of those killed in the Artsakh War and their relatives, amounting to approximately 2 billion drams.

Additionally, on March 8, "Factinfo" submitted written inquiries to the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance to clarify how many citizens' loan obligations have been suspended, and other related questions, but as of yet, no response has been received within the legally prescribed time frame.

It should be reminded that the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia approved on October 21 a bill amending the Tax Code of the Republic of Armenia, which allows banks and credit organizations to forgive the loan obligations of individuals who died, went missing, or became disabled due to military operations, and those closely related to them without incurring tax consequences. Thus, banks and credit organizations that forgive loans to those killed, missing, or disabled in war, as well as their closely related individuals, will be exempted from certain tax obligations. Closely related individuals include spouses, cohabiting parents, and cohabiting children. This provides an opportunity for banks and credit organizations to forgive loan obligations. However, many citizens are reporting that their loan obligations are not being forgiven.
