I Believe the Authorities Did Not Imagine What They Are Doing: Marukyan on the Initiative to Reduce the Funding of the Human Rights Defender

The infringement on the Human Rights Defender (HRD) institution is strictly condemnable, stated Edmond Marukyan, the leader of the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ parliamentary faction, during a conversation with journalists. He believes that the draft will not pass in parliament and will be defeated. Marukyan also mentioned that all international partners condemn this approach.

“I believe the authorities did not imagine what they are doing. They will quickly pull their hands back from this institution. I do not rule out that there will be some ruling party members who will also vote against it,” emphasized the deputy.

It is worth reminding that the government has presented an initiative proposing to reduce the annual funding of the Human Rights Defender.
