Azerbaijan Files Complaint Against Armenian Human Rights Defender's Office for Alleged Misconduct
The Office of the Human Rights Defender of Azerbaijan has filed a complaint against the Human Rights Defender's Office of Armenia with international institutions. This was announced today during a press conference by the Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan.
"They claim that when Azerbaijani captives were in Armenia, I allegedly visited the correctional facility and spoke rudely to them. They wanted to meet with me privately, but I refused," Tatoyan said, adding that this is absolute falsehood.
The Defender also stated that the current status of his office allows it to appear more credible on the international stage than Azerbaijan's Human Rights Defender. The reason is that Armenia's Human Rights Defender's Office has received the highest qualification category of A, while Azerbaijan's office has a lower B category. Furthermore, when assigning these categories, the financial independence of the institution from the country's government is also taken into account.
