The Statement of the General Staff is Not an Attempted Military Coup: Ara Aivazyan
Following the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, a rather complicated situation has arisen, which has also impacted Armenia's internal political conditions, stated Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazyan in an interview with Al Arabiya.
“We are currently facing internal difficulties, but I want to emphasize that Armenia is a democratic country, perhaps not perfect, but democratic. In recent years, we have made significant achievements in this regard. We have chosen this path of development and do not intend to step back from it. Regarding Armenia’s internal processes, they strictly comply with the provisions of the Constitution. In my opinion, the current difficulties can be overcome through dialogue, both in Armenia and in Artsakh, to unify our society for the protection and preservation of our state and national interests,” Aivazyan said.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that the consequences of Azerbaijan's aggression had a negative impact on internal stability in Armenia, but he completely disagrees with characterizing the recent occurrences in Armenia as an attempted coup. In response to a journalist's question about what it was if not an attempted coup, Ara Aivazyan remarked: “It was the political positioning of certain members of the General Staff. It was simply a political statement, which in itself is not an attempt at a military coup. Similar assessments were given by various countries and international organizations. There are no elements of a military coup in Armenia. Armenia continues to remain a democracy, and the current situation, as I mentioned, will align with our society’s democratic standards.”
