What Do Military Personnel Think of Pashinyan's Candidate? - 'Zhoghovurd'
Despite the upheaval in Armenia since February 25, when the former Chief of General Staff Onik Gasparyan and 40 high-ranking military officials demanded Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation, Pashinyan managed to hold a consultation with high-ranking military personnel 13 days later, during which he introduced a new candidate for the Chief of Staff.
Pashinyan did not wait for President Armen Sarkissian to appoint Artak Davtyan as the Chief of General Staff or reject this proposal within a three-day period. He introduced his candidate for the Chief of Staff, but until the president appoints or rejects him, the duties of the Chief of General Staff of the RA Armed Forces will temporarily be performed by Lieutenant General Stepanyan Galstyan, since the first deputy, Tiran Khachatryan, has been relieved of his duties, although he is contesting the decree in court.
It should be noted that Stepanyan Galstyan is one of the 40 military officials who signed the demand for Pashinyan's resignation, but this has not prevented him from meeting the Prime Minister yesterday and reporting that the personnel are ready for the consultation.
And who is Artak Davtyan, who returned to the army after leaving? A person whom professional military personnel have repeatedly publicly labeled as the most unprepared general and incompetent military figure. However, since Artak Davtyan provided desired testimony in the 'March 1' case at the Special Investigation Service, he is receiving a reward, assuming the position of Chief of Staff for the second time. He was first dismissed because he had secretly held his son’s wedding during the coronavirus outbreak.
