President Will Not Sign or Refer Appointment of Artak Davtyan to Constitutional Court

The President of the Republic has returned the proposal to appoint Artak Davtyan as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, along with his objections, on March 11, 2021. On the same day, the Prime Minister's justifications regarding the President's objections were received.

The President will not sign the draft decree and will not approach the Constitutional Court.

It is worth recalling that on March 10, 2021, the President had already appealed to the Constitutional Court regarding the compliance of certain provisions of the Law on Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel with specific articles of the Constitution. The decision of the Constitutional Court and potential measures could significantly impact the legal regulations concerning the removal and appointment of the Chief of the General Staff.
